On Day 32 of the session, Nan joined GPB’s Scott Slade and Rep. Jesse Petrea (R-Savannah) to discuss HB 51 which deals with campus rape. The bill, which Nan opposed, would have limited the ability of Georgia college campuses to investigate alleged sex crimes committed on campus. For example, it would effectively sidestep the common university practice of holding so-called “Title IX hearings” to decide whether to discipline a student accused of sexual assault. Instead, the bill would require some university employees to report possible felonies to law enforcement.
The bill was tabled by the Senate Judiciary Committee after it passed the House.
